If the NIC is integrated onto the motherboard you will need to load the correct XP nic drivers as well as the XP chipset drivers for your motherboard.
Main Topics
Browse All TopicsI have a Gateway with Vista. I just reformated the drive and successfully loaded a clean version of XP. I can not get my network installed. When I run ipconfig, it reports nothing. My cable is connected from the nic port to the router and both lights are steady on green.
I have tried everything I can think of and nothing. Any help would be most appreciated.

This is gateway's download page. If you enter your model number you should be able to find whatever drivers you need, or at least the part descriptions if you need to go to the actual manufacturers site.

Good Luck.
@skm2008 - This computer came with VISTA and not XP. There are no drivers listed there for XP, so I'm not sure why you would recommend that site.
After pulling the specs on your computer I can see that you have an NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE chipset. Here are a couple of sites that have the XP drivers:
http://www.nvidia.com/obje
http://driverscollection.c
MYCU You are right. It originally had Vista and it was always a problem for my brother and I know nothing about Vista so I reformatted the drive and installed a clean legal version of XP. Everything has come up except the drivers to run the nic connections...so I can not get on the web and can not complete ipconfig.
I am downloading the drivers from you suggested site...the other location did not have anything for the gt5432. I assume that once I get them on the memory stick and load them on the gateway...it will be obvious how to load them. I know very very little about hardware. Thanks very much for this help!!!!
Don't blast me for trying to help. In fact I specifically stated..
"or at least the part descriptions if you need to go to the actual manufacturers site"
Where did you "pull" the specs for their PC? Was it from the link that I provided?
Read what I say and realize that we are all trying to help. I think that i was pretty explicit when I first mentioned that they may have a hard time finding drivers for a machine specifically designed for Vista.
I'm not trying to blast you. I'm just saying that if the XP drivers were available on Gateway's site from the get go then this post probably would not exist.
I think that if you are going to point someone to a website for driver downloads, at least make sure that they are available for the OS they are requesting.
To get the spec for the computer I went into Google and typed in gt5432 specs.
Here are three sites that list this computer as having an NVIDIA chipset....including Gateway themselves.

Other than the ethernet controller, could you please tell me what is listed under other devices. If I know what it shows I can lead you in the right direction for needed drivers.
Try this site for the ethernet controller:
http://www.drivershq.com/D
Just let me know what is listed under "Other Devices" and I can get you some more links.
Under other devices...all with yellow ?
Ethernet Controller
PCI Device
PCI Simple Communications Controller
SM Bus Controller
Unknown device
Video Controller (VGA Compatible)
As far as using Drive Detective...it will not load and it wil not help because I have no internet access to follow thru and I can't even install Window Pack 2 or 3 and at lease 2 is needed for drive detective.
The bad part about your NIC is that it only says "Integrated 10/100 Ethernet LAN" which could be a few different things.
Try this site and see if the Driver - Chipset one will work for you.:

How about if I just get another NIC card and put it in...I never even thought about that. Then I could get onto the internet. What do you think!! Maybe if this above doesn,t work I will do that.
Or hear is another dumb question...I just called my brother and he dug up the disk that came with the computer and will ship it to me overnight. Will that have a driver that will work with Windws XP or only the stuff that works for Vista.
If you have an extra NIC card lying around that would definately help. Then you could at least install those drivers and be able to have interent access. After that you could install the necessary service pack (3) and be able to use some of the links posted above that you could not get to before.
The original disk that came with the computer will more than likey just be a Vista operating system disk. If a drivers disk did come with the computer, they will more than likely also be for Vista. However, if you do receive a drivers disk you can go into it and look at the list of drivers available. This way you will know the make and model of the things you are missing in device manager. It will make it easier to search for drivers if you know the exact name of the device.

Is your NIC properly configured: ie drivers etc. Check device manager to see if there are any yellow question marks. Typically, machines that are designed for vista can be a bit of a pill to get XP drivers for; however, some vista drivers will work.
