The mouse does get power and my APC power chute and web cam also work when plugged in to the USB ports that are part of the computer itself (not hub)

Browse All TopicsIn the midst of a Blackberry update, the computer stopped recognizing the blackberry.
It also will not recognize that my usb hub, nor anything plugged into it, is connected to my computer. Even my usb drive won't work in it. The usb drive will work in other computers.
The blackberry & usb drove will not work when hooked up to the usb connections on the back of my computer either and the blackberry now gives a message that there is not enough power to charge it... when connected to any of my computer's usb ports or the hub. The BB won't charge when I connect it to my other home computer, but it will connect to it's desktop manager and download software correctly (it just will not charge on that computer either).
I replaced the hub with a new one and the computer will not recognize it either. I"ve removed all usb suppport in the device mgr and reinstalled by rebooting, but it still won't recognize a hub as being present.

Sounds like the ports on the pc may be underpowered, they're enough for things like mice but not to charge a device or run a usb drive. Does your new usb hub have the ability to be powered from an ac adapter? If not would you know someone who has a powered usb hub that you could try on your pc?
If your usb ports are underpowered then technically a powered hub should be able to supply enough power to the devices connected to it.
Well take one step at a time.
If you connect your USB HDD drive to the ports of ur PC and it works then the hub is to Blame(remember to try all the ports)
If none of the ports can power up ur HDD then i am afraid they are short circuited and will be able to provide only minimum power (mice, usb sticks)
Well because u are complaining of not answering completely.
The real issue is your trouble with USB ports....well it seems that ur ports are damaged....
What they will recognize is a matter of internal mechanisms which to be honest have never took the time to see how it works.
But the things are simple.
If u cannot power an external HDD but ur mouse or a USB stick works then they are damaged.I also have this kind of issue and a lot of people i know.
If nothing works then i am afraid the USB Connectiivty is Dead and u either have to RMA ur Motherboard if it is still under Warranty,or buy a PCI USB card or buy another Mobo.

You may have damaged usb ports, do any devices (asside from the blackberry) get any power when plugged into the pc (for example have you got a usb optical mouse that you can check if the light comes on underneath?). If they don't get power, do they get power while the pc is booting up before windows?
