XBOX 360 4 Red Rings of Death

I was playing my xbox 360 yesterday and the graphics started to get choppy and then everything froze. I rebooted my Console and it booted to the 4 red rings of death. i checked the internet last night and it said the issue is caused by the AV cables. I changed the cables and the console started to work again, but stopped after ten minutes. Has anyone had this issues and been able to resolve the problem. All the forums I read, said if you can't resolve it after changing the AV cable send it to Microsoft. which i don't want to do...
