The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Port forwarding using NAT in RRAS does not work

Asked by pagroup in Windows Server 2008, VMware

Tags: Microsoft, Routing and Remote Access, 6.0 (Server 2008 x64), NAT

Good afternoon,

I am using VMWare Server to host some servers. To enable traffic from outside to these servers, I used the port forwarding inside VMWare. The servers themselves are connected through a host-only virtual adapter. This is working, but performing very badly. At most I get 700 kbps, but mostly far worse transfer rates, while the network interface itself is connected at 100 Mbps. This seems to be a common problem and the advice was to setup NAT using RRAS in Windows Server (I am using Windows Server 2008 x64).

In the NAT node I added the virtual network interface as a private interface. Also, I added the interface connected to the internet as a public interface, and checked "Enable NAT on this interface". I left address pool blank, and setup a new port with an address on "this interface", incoming port 81, private address is the address of one of the VM's, outgoing port 80.

It is not working, I am unable to connect to port 81, while I made sure the firewall is turned off. In the event viewer I can see the following message logged:

Unable to add the interface Internal with the Router Manager for the IPV6 protocol. The following error occurred: The parameter is incorrect.

Though it does not seem to me it is related to this issue..

Does anyone have suggestions? If more information is needed, feel free to ask.

Thanks in advance,
Mariƫlla
