Single application memory allocation

Asked by hgj1357 in Windows 7

Using XP the default (I think) was for Windows to allow ½ of the RAM to the single greediest application. This could be modified with a bootcfg switch along the lines of:

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional 3GB" /3GB /fastdetect

What does Windows 7 do in this regard?  I need gobs of RAM for autocad. Will W7 give it all it needs, or do I need a switch?  If I need a switch how much should I leave to the rest of the O/S?

The motive here is to see if I can use 8Gb limit PCs. If I can switch 7Gb to Autocad then I should be ok, but if I can only send 4-5 then I am less enthusiastic.

Thanks
