I worked perfectly! Thanks.

Browse All TopicsWhen I try to install SQL Server 2005 Expess SP2 on a clean Windows XP Pro system that has had Service Pack 3 applied I get the error "Setup is missing prerequisites: - MSXML6" when it starts to install SQL Server Management Studio Express. This is despite the fact that earlier in the installation is says it installed MSXML6, and my understanding is that MSXML6 is part of Windows XP Service Pack 3 anyway.
The setup indicates that Setup Support Files, SQL Native Client, and SQL VSS Writer were sucessfully done. However, both MSXML6 and SQL Server Database Services setups failed.
I was able to install sucessfully on another XP Pro machine, however, this XP machine has SP2.
I was wondering if I should just remove XP SP3 from the problem computer. The SQL Server needs to be installed before installing a proprietary Human Resources program.

From searching around, I am finding that most people have had to remove SP3, install SQL, and then reinstall SP3. Check out this article and some of the links within it.

With that said, I can tell you from experience that rolling back SP3 does not fully remove the SP. There will still be some files that are updated that cannot be rolled back. You might possibly have to reinstall Windows if that does not work.
