Event ID 8217 (EXCDO)

Environment:  Exchange 2003 (SP2) only have one Exchange server / Outlook 2007 / Windows Server 2003 /

Event ID 8217 / Source: EXCDO / Category: General
"The processing of the recurring appointment with the subject "......" in mailbox: Jones, Joe failed with error code 0x80004005.  This appointment will not be visible in the web client or other non-MAPI client."

Happens with several users (some have PDAs, some do not) and happens on different recurring appointments.

Can only find possible solutions for Exchange 2000.  We will be migrating to Exchange 2007 in the next few weeks.  Should that server upgrade resolve these errors?

This resolved the problem.  Thank you for your assistance.
Decided that this is an Event ID we can live with.

Can you elaborate on your answer? I'm having the same problem as cityofdover.

Am I supposed to create the registry key?

What program do i use the "/cleanviews" and "/cleanreminders" switches with? Outlook.exe?

Thank you in advance
Ditto. Please elaborate.

He is stating for you to create the registery key. I would not create the key and would apply all the lastest patches and updates for your exchange server and then run the /cleanreminders and /cleanviews as stated. You can run the command from the dos prompt or run command on the client machine. For example if you use outlook 2007 then use the command C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\OUTLOOK.EXE /cleanviews as your command. Outlook 2003 uses office 11 folder i believe.

Switches you can use to clean up your Outlook are:

/cleanfinders – to remove Search Folders from the Microsoft Exchange mailbox.

/cleanfreebusy – to clear and recreate free/busy information. (Note: To use this switch, you must be able to connect to the Exchange server)

/cleanprofile – to remove invalid profile keys and regenerate default registry keys.

/cleanreminders – to clear and recreate reminders.

/cleanrules – to delete rules on the client and server.

/cleanserverrules – to delete rules on the server only.

/cleansharing – to remove all subscriptions from Account Settings. (This will not remove any downloaded content)

/cleanviews – to restore default views, custom views are removed.
