Ok, well ignore the previous comment, the errors are back. I am using an account that has admin level access but the access error and warning is back.

Browse All TopicsI have a Smaill Business Server 2008 Standard. When I do searches in Sharepoint I always get a "No results matching your search were found." even though I am searching the exact name of a document. I have tried several fixes that I've seen on the Internet with no luck. The event log shows an error and warning:
Event 2424, Windows SharePoint Services 3 Search
The update cannot be started because the content sources cannot be accessed. Fix the errors and try the update again.
Context: Application 'Search', Catalog 'index file on the search server Search'
and the warning:
Event 2436, Windows SharePoint Services 3 Search
The start address <sts3s://xxxxxx.xxxxxxxxxx
Context: Application 'Search index file on the search server', Catalog 'Search'

The content access account needs read access to the content being indexed.
Do you see any errors under Central Administration > Shared Services Adminstration > Search Administration?
Perhaps on SBS since everything is on a single server, the content access account doesn't have enough priviledges to run properly since it's also a domain controller.
Also one other EE article mentions similar issue: http://www.experts-exchang
I finally fixed it. Found this article, plus a few response posts that finally corrected the issue, this issue exists with SharePoint on SBS 2008 only I guess. I followed the article plus the method 2 in the MS article and it worked. I had basically tried what was in the article just using the admin account for both search & content but using the two different accounts along with the the disable loopback reg entry did the trick.

FYI,
I have eliminated the error and warning in the event log by reconfiguring the SharePoint search service to use a different account but I still do not get any search results.
