Question

Default Exchange Database change

Hello, I am about to setup a client's SBS2003 box to start receiving email. The default location is on the C: drive and I want to move it to a larger partition before it starts to receive mail. Is this possible? Any help on this would be appreciated.

you can change the database path thru ADSIEDIT
Start > Run > Adsiedit.msc > configuration > Services >Microsoft Exchange > Exch Org Name > Administrative group > administrative group name >Server > server name > information store >storage group > storage group name > Mailbox store name

Right click on store name and go to properties and look for msExchEDBFile for edb file change the location
look for msExchSLVFile for stm file and change the location path

Use MikeHolcomb's suggestion - Narayan_singh's suggestion is dangerous - any time you edit Active Directory or the registry you need to be extremely careful - when there's a GUI solution - as there is - you should use that.

I would also suggest you move anything DATA off the C: drive - see www.lwcomputing.com/tips/static/bootdrivesize.asp for more information.

Hi,

Please find below the microsoft KB for moving exchange database & log files in case they are created:

Moreover, you can do the same by using Exchange System manager console (Recommended):

1. Open Exchange system manager

2. Right click Mailbox store

3. Select properties, go to database tab.

4. Browse to the drive where you want to save the database & log files.
