Allow Pop3 through ISA 2006
How do you allow Outlook to connect via POP3 while behind an ISA 2006 server? I created an access rule allowing POP3, POP3S, SMTP, and SMTPS, but it's still being blocked. I get the error message within Outlook 0x80042108.

I basically did this, except I set the rule for authenticated users instead of all users. I also moved it to the top of the list so it didn't come after any rules with authenticated users. Would it make any difference if I allowed this rule for only one internal computer, as opposed to internal as a whole?
it should work in the specific computer if u select it, but if it didn't work try to be sure the you add thre correct computer to ISA. but for testing try to add it for all user just to check it. maybe the problem in this computer only.
so now just for testing try to allow all internal user from Internal Netwok to External.
if it's possible send a snapshoot of this rule when u allow only one computer and when u allow all internal network.

Ok, I've made progress, the user can receive email now, but can't send. I think I have the proper port open. As it turns out it just needs port 80 for outgoing. The problem now is I'm receiving a different error that says it timed out trying to contact the outgoing server, error code is 0x8004210B.

Since the outgoing mail uses port 80, is there a way to configure Outlook to use Proxy? Under our web access rule the condition is for Authenticated Users, which blocks the outgoing email, which I'm assuming b/c no authentication is being passed. How can I configure this to work, or do I have to create a separate rule for HTTP traffic for just All Users?

Ok, I'll have it'll probably have to be Monday for me to get that snapshot. Port 80 is open, but thats the port that's being used for outgoing mail. Also, I have been watching the monitoring and don't see anything having to do with Pop3 or HTTP. What seems to be happening now, is that Outlook is timing out when trying to send email. The error is 0x8004210B within Outlook.

Are there a few numbers missing from the KB article #? When I try the link it doesn't work, and the article I find that matches those first 4 numbers is for Outlook 2002.

Here's a screenshot of the monitoring when Outlook is performing a Send/Receive. Recieve works, Send does not.

Right, but what would that have to do with Outlook not working? Just in case I did try allowing SNMP to my access rule, but it didn't help. GoDaddy uses additional ports for outgoing mail, so I'm going to try and adjust that.
ASKER
Ok, figured it out. GoDaddy uses other ports as well for outgoing email, so I changed the port within the Outlook configuration to 3535, then allowed that port on ISA and voila, it works.

Ok, I have a slight dilemma. How do I go about awarding these points? a-Jaleel's post with the Microsoft article above on allowing Pop3 was helpful, and necessary to getting this to work, but I want the overall solution to be complete, which in my case required adjusting the port used for outgoing. I can't seem to choose multiple solutions w/o selecting multiple users.
