Question

ISA Server cannot to external site

Asked by: StoneEdge

Hi

I have a problem in my network.

I have a ISA Server 2006, and is blocking a url. I tested this url outside of my network and is ok. But in my network give me time out.

I have changed the time out from the internal/host network from the web proxy tab. Have no impact.

I have tested the ISA Server with the Trafic Simulator, and i get this

Allowed Traffic
Denied Traffic  - destination URL host name could not be resolved
Rule Name: Internet Access
Rule Order: 1

Additional information
From: Internal
To: External
Network Rule Name: Internet Access
Network Relationship: NAT
Protocol: HTTPS
Rule Application Filter:

Traffic allowed by firewall policy rules may be blocked by Web or Application filters.

This is a site that is http then redirects to a https, and have a certificate to donwload.

But i have tested with other simular sites, and have no problem. I get the https, and ask to download the certificate.

But with this site, i always get:

Network Access Message: The page cannot be displayed

Technical Information (for Support personnel)
Error Code: 504 Proxy Timeout. The connection timed out. (10060)
External IP Address: xxx.yyy.0.60
Date: 03-11-2009 16:17:28 [GMT]
Server: isasrv.igas.local
Source: proxy

on the isa server you have to enable LOCALHOST into the rule that allows outgoing HTTP. its allowed from the internal network but not from the localhost. :)

Please let us know how it goes! :)

Hi

I think this is not the problem.

In my internet rule i have the access from internal to external with all protocols, but if this works for other sites, it must work for this particular site.

But i have added the local host, and have no suckles.

I think the problem is this :  Denied Traffic  - destination URL host name could not be resolved

The ISA cannot resolve the url. Why?

In the ISA Server Server DOS console, i have use the nslookup for this domain, and resolved.

you might wanna look here: http://www.experts-exchange.com/OS/Microsoft_Operating_Systems/Server/MS_Internet_Security_and_Accel/Q_23381804.html

one also suggested to: "remove and rebuild cache  files created  by  isa  server"

and the last one here: http://www.experts-exchange.com/Security/Software_Firewalls/Q_21647392.html

i hope one of the 3 suggestions they made will work for you. As i cant test it for you, you will have to do that for yourself :)

I have tested the examples in the other question, none worked.

The last EE question that you indicate is about OWA, and publishing a site, this is not the issue here.

What i see here, is that when the connection is http is good, but then when the remote domain, redirect to the https, i loose the connections and give time out.

I have other sites that i go first http, then the domain redirects to https, is ok i receive the Cert to download.

So i am certain that this is not a rule problem, but why i cannot connect to this site? I have test the site several times, outside of my network, from different networks, and all can connect with no problem.

Can this be a DNS problem?? When the site redirects to https, my DNS cannot resolve the new domain(that is the same, but like, https://xpto.domain.com/anotherview), rather than xpto.domain.com.

Can anyone give a help on this please?

Thank you

Hi PingRiyaz:

Nope did not work :(

Is there a way that i can tracert a url? Any tool etc.?

I know that i can tracert a IP or domain, but i need to tracert https://xpto.domain.com/xpto

This type url i cannot tracert with this command. Is there other way??

With this i can confirm where can i get, if i get outside of my network, or this is blocking in the way.

Just run the tracert for xpto.domain.com which is more than enough

by: StoneEdgePosted on 2009-11-07 at 04:55:28ID: 25766124

Because xpto.domain.com i can reach without any problems. I cannot reach is https://xpto.domain.com/xpto

And tracert do not work with url, but only with domains

Hi Stone

Maybe the problem is not the ISA Server.

Do you have any other Firewall in your Network?

I had a similar problem with my OWA, and after several days looking for the problem, the problem was another firewall(Cisco ASA) that was above my ISA Server

So try to check any other firewall that you may have, and check that if it blocks on that firewall.

Use tracetcp to trace your domain:443 in that url. Check that if that trace stops at your ISA Server, or any other firewall that you may have above

With this you can checked if the problem is your ISA Server, or any other type of Firewall

Hope this can help you

Hi Bestway

I follow your resolution and we found out that a firewall in your network(outside of internal network) is blocking that url

the packets stop in that firewall IP, then we contact the company that maintain that firewall and they are working on int.

I will post the feedback

by: StoneEdgePosted on 2009-11-25 at 02:28:07ID: 25905764

Problem resolved

Like Bestway as advised, i run the tracetcp and it stop on a Firewall/router that we have outside in our network.

After contact the company they check the rules(i think it was the rules) and find out that the router/firewall was blocking that url trough 443

So thank you all for the help
