asked on

Pogo.com

I play a game at pogo called tumble bees. It loads ok and at first the sound is fine. After ( at most ) two games though--it crashes. I get a blue screen and the message reads :

   A fatal exception has occured at 0028:C003ABD in VXD VMM ( 01 ) + 00002ABD.

It suggests that I press any key to bring the game back--sometimes this works, sometimes not--but in any event, even when the game itself comes back, the sound is weird and sounds like rain on a tin roof, or maybe a demented drummer with only one drumstick.

If it's important--I run windows 98se.

Thanks very much for your ( potential ) solution. Hey--have 500 points on me.

hi ausfran,

I would suggest you try updating your directx to version 8.0 if your version is still at 6.0.

How to check you would ask?

Do this.

Click on "start" button, choose "run" type:

dxdiag

and press enter.

Then direct x will pop out. Check for Direct X Version.

If yours is 8.0 or higher (directx 9), leave it as usual and proceed with the following below:

If not, download direct x 8 and install in your system first to see if it helps.

http://download.microsoft.com/download/winme/Update/8.0a/W9XMe/EN-US/DX80eng.exe

It may seem like something wrong with your graphic card drivers (sometimes, it is)

U may wish to try DOWNLOADING the latest graphic drivers for your pc first. Then uninstall the current graphic drivers from your pc and reboot system. Then install new graphics into your system. Reboot system after installing new graphic drivers and play the game again.

Hiya PC

Thankyou for your help but I'm afraid that may not be the answer. I checked Directx and I'm running Directx 9. I did all the tests available when I looked at it, and it said that everything was ok. I then checked the driver for the graphics card ( NVidia TNT2 M64 )  and the message was that the correct driver was loaded and the recommendation that I leave it be. Just out of interest I went to Pogo again, and it crashed almost immediately--this time with different numbers, but with the same VxD letters. When it crashes, the screen goes blue, and after I hit " any key " it it will sometimes revert to the desktop  ( not back to Pogo ) and everything will run as normal, except with an awful noise as previously described. I eitehr have to turn my speakers off, or else reboot altogether. Sorry to be a bore, but can you think of anything else which would cause a " VdX" error?

Regards from Fran
1 question, did u use nvidia denotator for your graphic? Or did you use default drivers for your graphics in this case?

Dear PC--the person who sold me the graphics card ( which came with the comp ) loaded the drivers-----I'm assuming he would have loaded the default. Would " detonator " be better, do you think? And if it would be----where would I get such an animal?

Thankyou again for taking this time to help me

Regards from Fran
For all nvidia drivers, u can get it here:

http://www.nvidia.com

The driver specifically for your pc is:

NVidia TNT2 M64

at url: http://download.nvidia.com/Windows/45.23/45.23_win9x_english.exe

The above version is the latest denotator driver. Version 45.23. If it still doesn't help your system, you may wish to try another lower version which is WHQL certified.

at url: http://download.nvidia.com/Windows/30.82/30.82_win9x.exe

A lower version might be good sometimes. I was previously using Nvidia TNT 2 Model 64 32MB and playing counter-strike. Installing higher versions only caused my system to black off and I end up using version 30.82 for a long period of time even though newer versions of denotator keeps updating on this website.

Hope the above info solves your current problem.
By the way, are u using IE 6? Cos I realise the game which you are playing is actually an online game right? (If I'm not wrong)

U may wish to install IE 6 to your pc to see if it helps.
