screen capture

I am having difficulty capturing a video file... I can easy use the screen capture to capture it, but when i save it, the graphics are not actully captured. only the black background is captured. I am trying this with Window Media Player. I have attempted to use Photoshop or MS-paint to save the file, but it doesn't seem to save the image at all.

Do you think I might need a plug-in? or any other media players? I tried snatch-it and snagit, but neither works.

Please help!

Thanks,

Iz.

I have tried it from two different computers and one of them crashed while trying to paste the image in ms-paint. I am using an on-board inter graphics card I believe... well it is in my laptop.
I have no problem to capture a video by snagit. May be you are using laptop, that is the reason.

If none of the above works then you can play your video in
xingplayer and when you like to take screen shot just stop the video and then you can take a picture by clicking the camera button. I will save in various file extension like jpg, gif and so on..

Yeh, I think you should test DirectDraw in yous system to make sure DirectX function working well

You can diagnose and resolve DirectX problems using the DirectX Diagnostic Tool and the Multimedia and Games Troubleshooter. The DirectX Diagnostic Tool helps you test the functionality of DirectX, to diagnose problems, and to adjust the level of hardware support used by DirectX, which can be used to avoid issues on some multimedia drives. The DirectX Diagnostic Tool (Dxdiag.exe) is installed with DirectX and can be run by clicking Start, clicking Run, and then typing dxdiag.

Chose Display tab->Test DirectDraw->follow instruction

tell us if you pass all test successfully

I suffered from your problem when i had a nvidia video card.
since i changed to ATI 9600, i can use printscreen to capture video shots.

anyway, you can use a video player that has the ability t take screenshots,
or use the FFDShow directX filter (http://cutka.szm.sk/ffdshow/) that has an option to take screenshots while playing video from any media player (even windows media player)
I just happen to bump into this site....entitled "Capture Frame Rate, Hardware Acceleration, & System Performance"

http://www.techsmith.com/products/studio/tutorials/1105.2.asp

and as I was reading the article I saw this Note below referring to black screen error.

[Note: Disabling the hardware acceleration is crucial if you want to record videos from a media player such as Windows Mediaplayer, RealPlayer or QuickTime. Otherwise you'll get nothing but a BLANK SCREEN.]

and I think the software that was mentioned here is Camtasia (which is a capturing software), you can read about Camtasia on this website.

Seeing as every bugger else has had a go, can I suggest the king of em all?

Irfanview !

I was facing the same problem in the past.
Use ACA Capture Pro 5.0, it did it well for me.
