Why is the same UPC-A barcodes different with two different softwares?

Using Bar Tender's (from Seagull Scientific) UPC-A simbology and Corel Draw 12's UPC-A,
the barcodes created with the same numbers are not alike.  Bar Tender asks for 12 numbers and the barcode is made correctly and scans.  Corel Draw asks for 11  numbers and then asks for 2 to 5 more in another block.  My product has only 12 numbers for its barcode. The two barcodes of course can not look alike since the Corel has more numbers and it does not appear to be correct.  Why would 2 differnt programs ask for 2 different things to create a UPC-A barcode.  Sorry if I sent this to the incorrect topic area.  Thanks,  cowlife

Thanks very much Masqueraid!  It didn't enter my mind that Corel might be generating the 12th check digit itself, but sure enought it is.  Perfect barcode.  I really appreciate your good thought.  cowlife
