Microsoft introduced Windows Update back in the days of Windows 98. This was a facility to get regular updates for Windows, both security updates, minor bug updates, driver updates and service packs. Since then the product has evolved. With Windows Vista and Windows 7 it’s integrated as a service into the operating system.

We can also use this update service to provide updates for all Microsoft products that are installed on the client where Windows Update is launched by updating this service to Microsoft Update.

Coming to Win7 from XP, you might wonder where the QuickLaunch toolbar went. This article describes how to get back that "QuickLaunch" functionality.

First, be aware of the Win7 idea of pinning programs to the Taskbar; that feature provides some important new capabilities. This article describes how to add a Delete button to the Windows 7 Explorer toolbar. In the followup article, we'll see how to add your own custom buttons to that Win7 toolbar.

With Win7, if you want to delete a file, you can drag it to the Recycle Bin, or right-click it and select Delete from the context menu, or open the Organize menu and choose Delete. You can also select a file and press the Del key, or even Alt+F,D.

I have owned a Lenovo T400 for over a year and, while I am very happy with the laptop, the fact that it uses Windows Vista Business (x64) has been somewhat of a sticking point. See, Vista has always seemed a bit sluggish to me on the device and I never felt like my 4gb of ram was letting the T400 shine. There are certainly a number of improvements Vista makes over XP that made the switch worthwhile, but the performance cost always irritated me.
