I have connected my Belkin 802.11(b) adapter to Airport Extreme. My LAN Monitor status window shows 100% signal strength. The problem is that I cannot connect to the Internet. The Belkin tech support representative said that I should ask how to configure my Windows XP laptop for the DNS address. He said that although the wireless connection between my laptop and the AEBS is fine the DNS resolution is "not happening".
My TCP/IP Properties are set to "Obtain an IP Address Automatically" and "Obtain DNS Server address Automatically". Would it make sense to set the IP address, subnet mask, default gateway and the Preferred DNS server to particular numbers? If so which numbers would I use? I have the Airport Extreme connected to a Verizon DSL output from a DSL modem.
When I select Start, Run, cmd and type "ipconfig" the following appears:
Windows IP Configuration
Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:
Connection-specific DNS Suffix: dummy.net
IP Address: 192.168.157.3
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway:
When I type "ping 192.168.157.3" I see:
Reply from 192.168.157.3: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128
Reply from 192.168.157.3: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128
Reply from 192.168.157.3: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128
Reply from 192.168.157.3: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128
Packets: Sent=4, Received=4, Lost=0"
What else can I do to configure my computer for the DNS Address so that I can connect to Internet using the Apple Extreme?
