The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

I have an existing Netgear MR814v2 wireless router set-up that works fine with a Windows XP
laptop connected via wireless, and I have an older G3 MAC plugged into one of the ethernet ports
on the router

I just  bought a refurbished airport card from APPLE for an older ibook and can't connect to the router via wireless. Plugging it in via ethernet works fine, wireless does not.

Facts:
-ibook is running os9.2.2 with airport 2.0.4 software
-netgear router is broadcasting the wireless networks ssid
-ibook sees the ssid but says it can't connect to "the airport network"
-dhcp is enabled by default and all netgear settings are factory default except i changed the ssid
-WEP is disabled on router
-firmware has been upgraded from 5.01 to 5.03 (did not solve problem)
-signal strength is almost the max as seen by airport card software on ibook
- The router see's the ibook/ airport cards MAC address
-The ibook airport control panel sees the network ssid
and routers MAC address but keeps coming back saying
it can't connect to the "airport network"
-The TCP/IP control panel says AIRPORT on the ibook,
but the ip address that appears is not that allowed
by the router (e.g. 168.0.1.X). I hard coded the ip
addresses in the tcp/ip panel and still no dice
(I have cycled this panel a couple of times, but it is not getting a correct
ip address from the router via dhcp, so it assigns one in 169.254 range
-Netgear tech support is useless.

I have searched other forums to no avail as most say to upgrade
the firmware to v5.01 which the router already had when I first installed it.
Thanks for any ideas.
