The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Best VNC software for Mac

Tags: mac, vnc, ultravnc, best
Greetings,

our archetectural office runs a software called archioffice for our billing and time management.  It runs on filemaker server, however it is brutally slow over our vpn to our boston office.  I would like to test some vnc solution to see if I can find a faster way for that office to work.

I am familiar with ultravnc and have used it quite a bit on pcs but this office is Mac.  I read ee question Q_20932591.html which talks about ultra vnc server being able to run on the mac but I have not been able to get it working.

My question is which is the best remote control software for mac.  It woudl also be nice if it were able to be used on teh client end by pc as well but this is not mandatory.

I am going to evaluate timbuktu and I have heard that it is good.

Thanks to any mac experts for help in this area.

Best regards,

Sky

timbuktu is decent but slow.

We use OS X VNC as a server
http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/16699

On the Macintoshes we use VNC Viewer for viewing

I think apple remote desktop is the best.

It's fairly inexpensive for everything it does.

except as vnc only it rather sucks. it looses connections and has to be quit and restarted every so often.

The only problem I've had of what you speak is being vnc'd to my Tiger server.  That's the one that gives all the trouble, not ARD.

11.02.2005 at 08:45AM PST, ID: 15209523
try using it on a windows vnc server or any other third party vnc server. it sucks.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean.  The "server" is on the mac client.

If you want to run a vncserver on your OS X clients, you can:

A use ARD & only the macs will be able to control
B install ARD 2.2 on the clients.  This has vncserver built into ti & the PC or Mac can control.  I use Chicken of the Vnc client for the macs and Tight Vnc client on MS to connect to Tiger vncservers.  I'm not sure if Tight will work to a non-tiger box, but if not I think realvnc client will for MS machines.

Thanks very much for these great suggestions.

I ended up using the server from redstonesoftware.com and the client from mdimension.com.  It seemed pretty good but I will try out these other options and see how it goes.

Thanks again for the quick response.
