The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

I WILL TRY TO BE AS THOROUGH AS POSSIBLE:
I have 2 computers (G5 iMAC running OSX Tiger & Toshiba Laptop running Windows XP).
I have a Brother HL-1250 Printer that is connected to a Linksys WPS54G Wireless Print Server.
Both computers work flawlessly with the wireless print server and this printer.
I also have a Canon i960 printer that is connected to another seperate Linksys WPS54G Wireless Print Server.
The Windows XP computer & the Canon i960 work flawlessly together.
However, I cannot get the G5 iMac to work properly with the Canon i960 because OSX Tiger does not include the driver or plugin for this printer.  The reason the Brother works with the iMac is due to the fact that the driver for this printer was included in the operating system.

Here is what I know:
1.  In order for Mac OSX Tiger to be able to print from a printer connected to a print server, you must do the following:
Open up System Preferences and select "Print & Fax"
2.  Hit the "+" button (this adds the printer)
3.  Select IP Printer
4.  Protocol needs to be set to "Line Printer Daemon - LPD"
5.  Address needs to be the IP Address of the Print Server.  In my case, it is 192.168.1.106
6.  Queue needs to be lpt1 (If you leave the Queue blank, printers will not work!  You must select lpt1).
7.  Under the "Print Using:" Section, you need to select the printer that is connected to the print server.
8.  THIS IS WHERE IT ALL GOES BAD!!!
9.  If I select Canon, it opens up numerous Gimp-Print Drivers for various printers, but not the i960.
10.  If I select "Generic PostScript Printer", the printer will not print at all.
11.  If I select a few of the Canon Gimp-Print Drivers, I can get the printer to work, but the text and page setups are all whacky.
12.  Somehow, I need to be able to get the Canon i960 Print Driver into this section.  If I can get this to happen, life should be terrific.
13.  I have installed the correct drivers for the i960 on the iMac as it works perfectly when hooked up via the USB cable.
14.  However, I do not know how to get the system to access these drivers when adding a new printer.

I know there was a very similar issue on this site with damn near the exact same setup.  However, the solution given, was inaccurate, at least for my situation.  I have talked to Apple's Tech Support numerous times and have got techs that have no clue about this part of the operating system.  That is why I feel this issue is worth the full 500 points as I have looked everywhere for the solution.

Any and all help is very much appreciative!
