Mac can't access shared folders on WinXP home machine

Thanks to some other help I was able to easily setup RAID5 on my windows xp home pc.  Now I'm having trouble connecting to the shared folders on the Windows XP Home machine even though I was able to successfully connect earlier.

What I am trying to do is simply share folders on the RAID setup so that my wife can use her new iMac to access family photos, music libary and other documents which reside on the WinXP Home machine.  I was able to successfully network the the Mac to the PC earlier today and move her documents to the Mac from the PC, but now i'm getting some errors and I'm not too familiar with the Mac OS to figure out how to fix it.

Here are the steps I have taken so far;

1.  I have 3 folders shared in the WinXP machine - the PC has a static IP of 192.168.1.145 and the folders are all shared

2.  I can successfully ping the Linksys router, ping the PC and surf the internet using the Mac

3.  I can also see my network name "Home" and the PC name "mogwai" in the Network section of the Mac Finder

But here are are the problems that have cropped up this evening;

When I select "mogwai" (the pc name) I get the window which asks me to "Select the SMB/CIFS shared volume you want to connect to - so I select the name "Racing", and also select Authenticate again.  I'm see the workgroup name "Home" (that's the LAN workgroup that the pc is on), enter in the username and password for the PC

At this point I always get the error message that "The alias "Mogwai" could not be opened - I try to delete or fix the alias and I get a message that I am not authorized to do so.  I even tried logging in using "root" and am still unable to get this to work.

Can someone please help me out...i've been at this for abotu 6 hours and it's damn frustrating.

Thanks.
