Hi All,
Just got AT&T/Yahoo DSL today. The tech left I plugged it in, put in their CD, plugged the modem into my computer, everything worked fine. Ok, so then I added an Airport Extreme into the mix, and I can't seem to get it to work, or, more correctly, work consistently. One computer is a Macbook Pro, another is a iBook G4. The modem is a Motorola Netopia 2210-02.
What happens is this: the Apple Base Station (ABS) seems to only work on one computer at a time. If I try to connect two I get either an "IP CONFIGURATION" error: 69.107.x.x is in use by 0:17:x:x:x:x, DHCP SERVER 192.168.1.254." Or, when I'm not getting that, I get a "Looking for PPPOE host" error message running across my menu bar like a stock ticker. (Right now I've got one message on one machine, and the other on the other.) The "Looking for..." message can come up on a lone machine whether or not the other machine is trying to connect.
My suspicion is that something in the Airport router isn't set up correctly, so that it can't share IP addresses properly. I cleared up the aforementioned double-error message by closing one computer and renewing the DHCP lease on the other. I noticed when I did that that the IP address for each computer was in the 192.168.1.x range, but when I renewed it went to the 67.107.x.x range.
"You have to bridge," you might say, but 1) I have no idea how to do that, and 2) a tech support rep from AT&T said, "Well, it says here you don't have to bridge" before suggesting I call Apple.
Ok, if you've read all that, can you help? Please don't send me a "Get a PC" response, I've got far worse horror stories to tell on that end. :-)
