how do I access a windows share drive from a mac

Asked by brendanosmith in Apple Networking, File Servers, Active Directory

I have a brand new Mac that I am trying to set up on a windows based network.  We have other macs that are able to access share drives so I assume any configuration that needed to be done on our windows 2003 servers has already been done.  I have absolutely no experience with Macs so I apologize for my complete lack of knowledge on the subject.  I have already gone to Directory Access and entered "mydomain.net" for the forest, "mydomain.net" for the domain, I have checked off "force local home directory on startup disk", "Use UNC path from Active Directory to derive network home location, Network protocol to be used: smb:" and "Default user shell: /bin/bash"

But when I then go to the Network utility (if that is what you call it) I get an error "The volume for "Network" cannot be found."
