The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

500 Internal Server Error for .asp with IIS 5.1 ~ Class not registered

Tags: error, server, iis, 500, internal
I just recently upgraded from home XP to pro XP and installed IIS 5.1 from my install disk. I haven't been able to access any .asp files via http://localhost/ but i can access .html files.

This is the error i receive in my Event Viewer :

The server failed to load application '/LM/W3SVC/1/Root'.  The error was 'Class not registered'.
For additional information specific to this message please visit the Microsoft Online Support site located at: http://www.microsoft.com/contentredirect.asp.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

I've searched high and low, reinstalled IIS 2 - 3 times trying to fix this problem but I get this exact error every time. Nothing about DCOM.

The error i receive in my browser with Friendly HTTP error messages turned off :
Server Application Error
The server has encountered an error while loading an application during the processing of your request. Please refer to the event log for more detail information. Please contact the server administrator for assistance.

I did the steps on this page : http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;309051 ; and i still have the same results.

Here is my set up : I run XP pro on a DHCP network with 2, sometimes 3 other computers. I have a FAT32 file system. I have no firewall running while trying to fix this problem...

I would really like to get ASP working on my machine so that i can learn it thoroughly for web development.

Any help would be so greatly appreciated.
