I dont know if anyone can help but I would be grateful if you could. I have searched through the forum to find relevant answers but none seem to be related.
My problem. I live in Spain and have just signed up to Tiscali ADSL. I opted to use my existing router which is an inventel DW-B 200 Wireless router. I have tried connecting to Tiscali using USB and Ethernet but to no avail. Tiscali Tech support is as much use as a chocolate fireguard.
The manufacturer of the router is French and so far have not respoinded to any emails I have sent.
When you opt to use a 3rd party router with Tiscali they give parameters which I cannot find anywhere (such as VCI). I have since discovered that they use ATM for their access which explains the strange parameters and why I cant find them. My questions are
1. Is it possible to configure my router to enable ATM access.
2. How do I find these parameters?
3. How do I set up my router to access this ATM/ADSL network
Any info would be gratefully received
Details of my system
Intel P11 900, 256MB RAM, Windows XP operating system. Using a Inventel DB-W200 WI Fi router, (not as wireless thats for later)
Also have a realtek NIC
Any other info you need please feel free to ask - if you wish to contact me by email I am on vbtudor@spanishproperty-di
Thanks in advance
Vince

I don't know if I can help, but I'll try. ADSL is only part of the network infrastructure. Many connections via DSL use ATM networks at some point later in the signal circuit, so if your ISP shipped you the router, it probably is designed for their network.
Now, to begin with, there are lights or LEDs on most routers. From looking at pictures of the DW-200, it looks like you do have a DSL light on your router. Is that right? You may not even have a DSL signal coming through on your phone line yet. If the DSL light is on, you probably have a DSL signal.
Have you installed DSL filters on all the phones, faxes, etcetera that are on the phone line? If not, did you get any filters with your DSL service?
Normally, there are two parameters for ADSL access using ATM: VPI and VCI. We won't go into what they mean, except to say that they help tell your modem or router which network to connect to, or what network path to use to connect to the ATM network. In Europe, these numbers are usually 8 and 35. Make sure if you need to enter these numbers in your router that you have done so.
If you cannot connect to your router, are you sure you're using the right type of cable? Have you tried connecting the DSL router directly to your computer? Are there any markings on the cable? Sometimes, you need a different cable to connect directly to your computer than you do to connect your router. What is the IP address of your router? What is the IP addres you are using for your PC? They must be on the same subnet to speak with each other. For example, both on 192.168.0.x
Does that help?
