I used to work for ITC Deltacom and the product they are offering is what they call a dynamic T. Basically they are providing your phone service on a VoIP style service. For every call, you will be using 40K of bandwidth to connect and 20K once connected. The internet bandwidth is max of 1.2M. The T1 goes into an ATM channel bank that seperates the voice channels and provides you with an ethernet connection for your data. The equipment that will more then likely be used is an Adtran 612 ATM channel bank, if you need your voice to be digital, going directly into a PBX, then they will give you an Adtran Netvanta router.
The difference between the T1 bandwidth is for overhead used by deltacom.
To answer some of Chris' questions, deltacom does provide local E911 services, it is verified from onsite at the day of the installation. For any problems, they have a service center that is manned 24/7 with a toll free number. In most locations they do offer PBX's which are NEC brand but they do not service anyone elses system, in other words, if you didn't buy it from then they won't touch it.
One major drawback is that if your T1 goes down, deltacom has a two hour commit time to be at your location and fix it, if it ends up that the problem lies with the T1 line coming in from bellsouth, then that adds addition down time while a bellsouth tech is dispatched to your site. Something deltacom doesn't mention.

Interesting... No, this really doesn't have anything to do with ATM. But here's some answers.
T1's are actually 1.536Mbs (24 channels at 64k)
1: It sounds like itcdeltacom is offering a VoIP solution. If you were taking a channel from a T1 it's 64k, period. With VoIP they just allocate a bandwidth amount and with various codecs and compression the amount of data required varies.
BellSouth is offering a more "traditional" style integrated T1. You pick how many phone lines you want and they take those away from the 24 available on the T1 and you're left with a set split amount for Data and number of phone lines.
2: Really depends what the actual itcdeltacom offering is, I'm just guessing. But which is "better" really depends on your needs. VoIP is basically the way things are going so there's nothing wrong with it. But there are drawbacks... e.g. if your data connect goes down so does your phone, do they offer E911 services, how do you call them for support when there is a problem with the line.
3: VoIP is a cheaper technology and CLECs aren't bound by tariffs. They can change their pricing a negociate at will. RBOCs like BellSouth are bound by tariffs submitted to the FCC and can not change their pricing.
4: Not sure what other "relevant info" you're looking for w/o knowing what you're trying to accomplish.
5: I'd question itcdeltacom about what their service actually is. If it's VoIP are they offering additional PBX type services, are they providing VoIP equipment along with it, etc. The BellSouth is standard phone stuff so it's really straight forward with what you're going to get.
