linksys router and AIM direct connect
how do i get these 2 to work together? i cant direct connect cuz of the firewall
well its quite simple actually. You have ot configure it to connect.
Open your AIM Preferences. Under "File Transfer", enter some high port number (I will use 2500).
open IE and type it http://192.168.1.1
type in user name and password (if not set just type in 'admin' as the password.
click advanced
then click fowarding
open your Port Triggering window. Set the trigger port to be 5190-5190, and the ports to open to be 2500-2500. This will force transfers to come into port 2500, which will have been triggered open by the fact that AIM is connected. Note that AIM 5.0 seemed to be able to negotiate with the router, since when I tested this, port 2500 was not used, but the transfer was succesful. I'm still a little confused on this.
To do AIM direct connection, add a second port triggering rule. Make the trigger ports 5190-5190, and the open ports 4443-4443. I just tested this, and it worked like a champ.

Alright... wait... so my question might be a bit different, but it's similar.
I have a D-Link router, right? It doesn't have something that says "forwarding" under my configuration settings, but it does have something that says Special AP, under which it has the following columns: Trigger, Incoming ports, and Enable.
Also, I'm on trillian as well.
So this is what I have done so far.
Under trigger, I put 5190, then under incoming ports I put 4117-4443. And that's all I've done. Should it work? Doesn't seem to be working.

dxpertjr... I am having the same exact problem you did before. I still cant seem to solve it though.
I also have trillian and I'm not sure whether I should change any port numbers in the trillian settings.
Do you think you could walk me through what you did to get that working???

There also might be a difference in the basic and pro versions in terms of port numbers. The 4117 port worked for me using TPro v2.012.
you know an easy way to do this. Connect directly to your connection and just initiate a file xfer. During the file transfer go to start->run->cmd
type netstat -a
You should be able to figure out what to forward from that.

Trillian has problems direct connecting with aim users using the normal aim client. I have not foudn a fix for this yet and have tried everything. Sorry but that is what it seems to be.
