Hi, DION
first please turn off the cap  locks
Now, there hsould be a reset procedure for the router, a reset button to be pressed for about 10 seconds to reset it to factory defaults
reset the router and then try and connect
also make sure the ip address for the NIC is set to 192.168.1 (2-254)
mask 255.255.255.0
this way it will be ont he same network as the linksys

Can you give us a configuration of your computer?
It could be that if you're using 2 NICs, it's not sending data to the proper NIC, and you can't see your router.
Also try this:
http://192.168.1.1:80

I'm guessing from the IP you are using a Linksys router??? Most of the Linksys routers come set as default to be activated as DHCP servers...so you need to try a couple of things to make sure your computer is connected to the router properly.

1. Go and configure your network connection so that it 'obtains IP automatically' that way...your computer will get it's IP address from the router

2. Try going to the command prompt and typing IPCONFIG this will bring up your current IP address and subnet mask...make sure they are in the 192.168.1.x range and that the subnet mask in 255.255.255.0 If either of these settings is off...it means that your computer can't talk to the DHCP server in the router....

Two questions: Do you have broadband internet access through the router? and have you checked the physical network cables/ports?

my ip add is 10.192.192.1
mysubnet is255.255.240.0
i just replaced the cables again they are fine my broadband is working but not through the router im assuming because i cant configure the router.

Change your IP settings to obtain and address automatically. You'll never talk to the router using that address as it's on a different subnet. 10.192.192.x will not talk to 192.168.1.x

i changed my ip address to 192.168.1.1 and i lost the internet connection had to change it back to get back on the internet.

by: prisonersofgravityPosted on 2003-01-19 at 10:13:00ID: 7757361

Sean was right about setting your NIC up to Obtain IP Automatically. Then reboot (it helps sometimes)

Make sure your Default gateway is set to 192.168.1.1

Can you ping 192.168.1.1?

Then you should be able to get to the configuration screen.
If not copy output from ipconfig and post it for us.

Okay... first of all, disconnect the patch (network) cable from your network card on your computer.  Connect your a regular patch cable from your network card to one of the LAN ports on your Linksys.

Now, make sure that you are getting your IP address assigned to you automatically through DHCP.  DO NOT ASSIGN YOURSELF AN IP ADDRESS.  Open a command prompt (go to the start menu, Run..., type cmd and press enter.  At the command prompt, type ipconfig /release.  Now, type ipconfig /renew.  (Make sure you don't put the periods on the end of the commands...)  You should be given an address of 192.168.1.x, subnet 255.255.255.0 and a gateway of 192.168.1.1.

The things you're going to have to remember are that you have to be plugged into a LAN port from your PC to the Linksys.  The WAN port should be connected to your modem with the patch cable your ISP provided for you.  You will have to disconnect from the Internet for a few minutes to set up everything.  I usually suggest the D-Link boxes, so I'm not familiar with the Linksys, but were the instructions included with the router that difficult to understand.  The D-Link instructions have always been very straight-forward and easy to understand.

when you hcanged your ip to 192.168.1.1 you changed it to the same address as the router, and only one node can have an ip address (they must be unique)
manually set the ip on the NIC to
192.168.1.2
mask 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.1.1
enable dns and use 192.168.1.1
disable wins
reboot the machine and try and ping
192.168.1.1
do not be connected to the modem at the same time (if you have two NIC's)

It looks like your Default Gateway (router) is 10.192.192.1.  If you want to manage it, try http://10.192.192.1.

by: AnotherRobPosted on 2003-01-21 at 20:00:42ID: 7776739

Looks like EE doesn't handle punctuation well. Try http://10.192.192.1

by: tommytranPosted on 2003-01-21 at 23:49:48ID: 7777742

Change gateway to 192.168.1.1, then set subnetmask to be 255.255.255.0, and ipaddress to 192.168.1.101, and turn off DHCP server on the router. Why? Because you wouldn't want to fumble around with ports each time you ran a FTP server and you have 2 computers, and one of them hijacks your first IP when your computer is off. This is referring to the Ethernet Adaptor Local Area Connection.

by: stevenlewisPosted on 2003-01-22 at 09:12:49ID: 7783744

Actually tommytran, by default the dhcp scope for the linksys is 192.168.1.(100-254), so if you set the static ip to 192.168.1.(2-99) then there will be no conflict, and you can leave dhcp on (for dns)
