Browse All TopicsHello,
I am currently using roadrunner cable service which I am pretty happy with but for some damn reason twc does not want to give us static ip's. I looked into RCN but they dont offer service in my neighborhood so I dont really know what other option I have? I considered DSL but it is slow for the price, and if I want a descent speed I have to pay a lot, I would really like to stick with cable.
Can anyone recommend any providers??
Thanks in advance,
TGZ

There are some other options, depending on your situation.
http://www.dynip.com/ and http://www.no-ip.com allow you to dynamically map a URL to your dynamic IP addres..
This allows me to connect to my home PC from work using the same URL every time. I don't have ot keep writing down the IP when it changes..
A typical url would look something like http://kickassname.dynip.c
Why do you need a static IP, there is no real reason that you would need one as with most providers who say they are using DHCP the only change is the lease date/time stamp. The IP addresses normally stay the same. Is yours truly dynamic and has changed each time the lease is up? There are options that may help. I need more information as to what you are trying to do and for your information, most ISPs have gone dynamic as the IP address pool is overextended as it is. I know the provider I work for offers sticky IPs which is good if you want to pay the $$$ but for most users who continue to use the same equipment, their IPs remain the same until they replace the hardware connected to the cable modem.

Have you tried Earthlink? They provide both cable and DSL.
