large drop in speed on broadband internet tv

im hooked up to dsl broadband and when watching a tv broadcast at 500kb/s its fine for about ten seconds
and then drops way down to 121kb/s and sometimes stays at this. i tried a lot of different web tv sites and
the same thing happens. is this normal with a dsl connection or is there some configuration issues to be addressed in the pc...   thanks for any info...

Have you tried adjusting your RWIN settings by any chance?

Try getting DR TCP from here http://www.dslreports.com/front/drtcp.html maybe your RWIN is set too low or too high. What OS do you have?

Hi mate,
You need to set your RWIN according to the latency of yoru connection. Did you do the speed test at DSL reports? If not go do it and it will probably reccomend a RWIN speed..you then simply set that speed from the DR TCP interface.

How much memory do you have on your system?  I am assumomng that by TV connection you are receiving streaming media.  You can check your memory usage at any time by right clicking on my computer and then going to the performance tab and looking at available resources.  Often times, people will tax their memory and you can see it here.  It should be over 75% free for optimal access.

Nielubie you may need drtcp a free download that helps to tweak these registry entries without having to know about the registry and it prevents you from tweaking the wrong entry which would really slow you down.  See the response from TekHousE above.  He has the links there for it.

Coly, is this a USB connection?  USB tends to be processor intensive for certain networking applications.  If you have the option of USB or ethernet, I would try going to a PCI ethernet adapter to see if the bottleneck was in the processor having to work too hard to obtain data and convert it all.
