run ipconfig from a command line or winipcfg from the run line if your still stuck in the 95/98 era
Your gateway is the SMC not your internet service providers gateway as your barricade is you local gateway as it should be passing you an IP as a DHCP server.
The IP your provider assigns should be assigned to the WAN port of the router, your internal network is what allows you to connect to your router on the LAN side. You may need to reset this thing and try again.

anyway the vpi/vci are the dsl modem settings, not the SMC router. Your isp can set the modem but not the SMC. Try
tracert www.yahoo.com
or a similar thing, and sort out the ips to see where the smc sits.
