Question

linksys software wont detect connetion!

Asked by: Giselazac

I got a new linksys router the wired one its all preety and blue. But basically the first thing your supposed to do is install the configure software basically its asking for you not even to hook up the router just run the software and let it detect your internet connection settings. And right there it doesnt work instead of it saying there that it couldnt detect, it sais there is non! Now i know that it is working because i can do anything i always could with my connection. I turned off all firewalls even the stupid windows one that wasnt on in the first place. Basically it has nothing to do with the router its just the software.

Are you saying that your connection is working fine, but the linksys software doesn't work?

If that's the case, what do you need the software for? Once the router is working, you can access it through the web interface. If you've configured firewall settings then you've been there already. But in case you haven't, you just connect to http://192.168.1.1 (leave the username blank and type admin for the password).

If you get in ok, and everything's working I think you should be all set. Let me know if there is something specific you needed to use the software for.

Oh, just go ahead and hook it up. You probably don't need the software anyway. I'm sure all it does is set your computer's networking configuration to what it should be anyway.

If you can't connect to the internet or access the router though the web interface after that, let me know. Usually everything comes pre-configured out of the box and will work the first time, but there are exceptions...

Hi,
I am a Linksys Technician. Forgot about using the CD, plug the cable modem into the router's WAN or Internet port (depending on model)

Which ISP do you use? Do they use MAC filtering?
Some ISP's require that you give the MAC address of the router to them, to allow access. The MAC address is found in the 192.168.1.1 page under WAN or Internet on the first page.

If you use NTL as your provider you need to clone the mac address of your pc on to the router, the setup cd should do this, but can be done manually
