Question

Setting up Westell Wirespeed Dsl Router/Modem

Asked by: 888dee

I have recently purchased a Westell A90-36r641 DSL router & cannot get it so connect to my ISP (BTOpenworld). Telnet to 192.168.1.1 is possible but I'm prompted for a U/name and password, which I don't know, and I can also connect to it through IE at http://192.168.1.1:8080 but again when trying to enter the admin area I'm again prompted for a U/name & password,  can anyone help?

if memory serves, 192.168.1.1 is the router itself?

If so, you should get a username and password supplied with it.
If you dont have one, go back to where you got it and either get a new one, or easier get the shopkeep to let you see the password in one of the other router boxes. All the passwords should be the same, but you should get the chance to change it once you connect.

if its any help as well, the base admin/password for at least one routher is :
admin
admin

managed to get the admin password etc, admin/sysAdmin
my next problem is the "space" to enter the username isn't long enough!!
1 character short!!!!
I'm growing to hate this router...

hmmm...
i cant really fix that for you, but a few suggestions (apologies if any of these sound obvious, but make sure youve tried them anyway...)

try typing the username in anyway, it might register but not display
try type it into notepad, then copy and paste it in
make sure theres nothing already in the box (asterisks, etc)

and... umm.. thats all i can think offhand. Theres a program called "snadboys revelation" available at http://www.snadboy.com/ which will let you see whatever the content of ****** is, when you hover your mouse is. May be useful, might not.

I like the revelation, that will be useful...

I've spoken to the man at bt openworld & reckon I should be able to shorten my username....

by: hippydazPosted on 2003-11-19 at 16:18:58ID: 9783735

hopefully.

Be warned: your BT Openworld logon password and your router password will most likely be different, so unless BT are supplying your router they may not be able to help.

if you have any more problems though, im sure someone here will be able to help....
