It is definately worth a shot, I will try to shut of the encryption
Main Topics
Browse All TopicsThe problem I have is connecting to the internet wirelessly. I can connect to
the internet with my laptop when I have an ethernet cable going to the wireless
router and also I have no problems connecting with my wired desktop which also
has XP Pro sp2. I have the DI-624_revC setup with dynamic IP since I have Comcast cable
internet with a Motorola - SURFboard Cable Modem . On my laptop I have XP Pro SP2. I just upgraded the DI-624_revC router to the
latest firmware. I can get a connetion even though it takes forever to connect
(sometimes 5 minutes, and I get the message limitted connectivity) but no
internet connectivity. When doing an IP config I do not get a default gateway,
even though I do get an IP address and a subnet mask. Also I will have my laptop
sitting right next to the wireless router, and even though it shows exellent
signal strength, it only shows a speed of 5.5 Mbps. I have WPA-PSK TKIP setup
for security. In my laptop I have a built in Dell Wireless WLAN 1450 Dual Band
WLAN Mini-PCI card. I tried setting a static ip on the laptop still does not work wirelessly. I do not have any IP or MAC filters setup on the Router. Help me, help me.

Excuse me for the late reponse. I actually reset the DLINK DI-624_revC router, no encryption or security. Still cannot connect wireless. Although now I am getting Connected for status, and when I do an IPCONFIG I do get an IP a Subnet and Default gateway. Also I can ping internet sites (yahoo, google, msnbc, espn, etc...). But I still cannot connect to the internet via IE. With my previous laptop I had no problems connecting ( IBM T30). The only thing that has changed on the DLINK router since I have switched laptops is I upgraded the firmware on the DI-624_revC. My laptop works great with the wireless network at my work, at every hotel that I have been to, and at other people's homes. I am thinking of switching to Linksys.

Try to shut off the encryption and see if you can get connected. I know you dont want to run it like this but it will be a good troubleshooting step.
