Question

"www.microsoft.com" is not set up to establish a connection on port "World Wide Web service (HTTP)" with this computer?

Asked by: dave_the_bear

"www.microsoft.com" is not set up to establish a connection on port "World Wide Web service (HTTP)" with this computer.

This message appears everytime i try and diagnose the problem of not being able to connect to the internet on my laptop.

The actual connection works as im using the same connection on a different computer now.
Tried hooking up the ethernet cable to the laptop but that didnt work either.

Here are the results of when i ping google.com
and after that is my ipconfig

Hi,

to exclude DNS related problems. Please configure manually the DNS setting to the address 4.2.2.2 instead of 192.168.6.1 and see what happens ....

Any firewall, parental controls, or proxy settings on your laptop?  If a corporate laptop, these may be set without you realizing.  Do you normally have to use a VPN with the laptop for off-site network access?

Also, your ping times are quite large. Is this over some form of dial up? If so, what provider?

Hello,
I would check your hosts file to make sure that it did not get clobbered.
Also, under connections do you have a proxy set that wasn't there before?
Thanks,
Kelly Wilke
