Are the channels set to be the same or different. I can't remember exactly how those Linksys units work, but I believe they should be on a different broadcast channel.

I have attempted to setup a 2Wire 2710HG-B modem and a Linksys WRE54G wireless extender. I have them connected and can get a connection but it is very iffy. My situation is not getting them connected, it is having the connection be reliable. I have connected three machines at this access point but they keep dropping connection and they are not connecting to the internet.
Here is what I have tried:
1. Setting up the 2 pieces of equipment with the same SSID and Password (Works but very Iffy.
2. Changing the channel on both devices (2, 3, 4, 7, 8, 9, 11)
3. Have tried to change the IP range on the extender.
4. Raised the Power on the 2Wire modem to extend the range
5. Picked multiple locations to put the extender at. All have successfully connected with just not a reliable connection.
What else can I try or can you recommend to me to get this working, Or something I did wrong. Thanks!

from the manual "Channel. Select the appropriate channel from the list provided to correspond with your network settings. All devices in your wireless network must use the same channel to function correctly."
the 2wire used 64 bit WEP-open by default and only has one key make sure u clear out 2-4 and only enter it into key 1 if you left it on default.
if u changed it to a wpa key then this could also be causing the issue - make sure u just select wpa personal in the 2wire if ur using wpa.
also try boosting the power on the 2wire - change power to 10 (this will only work on ch 2-10 dew to if u use ch 11 it will drop it to 4 but still say 10 some fcc stuff goes into reasoning but dont want to type that all out)
Don't ever use WEP, it is just about as secure as no security. Use one of the WPA encryption forms. If WPA isn't available for the wireless extender mode, get hardware that supports that.
Have tested the extender with another network to check if it is an issue with the Linksys or the 2wire, and have you made sure both devices use the newest firmware?

The only thing I can think of is to check for firmware upgrades for both devices and do the upgrade. If that doesn't help or there is no upgrade available, first check if the extender works properly in combination with another device, and then when you know which is the bad product get in touch with the manufacturer or the place you bought it and ask for a warranty replacement.
