Going to put my voite towards neither as well.
In a colocation facility I'd imagine there is a far more diverse range of connectivity....fail that, frame-relay. ISDN is just not fun.

Browse All TopicsHi,
It seems like our company needs to install either a frame relay or an ISDN connection into our colocation so our servers can transmit data to a government website to be compliant with this new mobile network we are about to launch.
I have only used ISDN for our voice gateway, not to transmit data but I assume we need an NT1 box to convert the data across the line????
Can anyone give me a basic breakdown of the pros and cons of each line? SHould I choose ISDN over frame relay?

Uhhh. Neither?
Both are relatively... antiquated technologies. ISDN never really caught on (here) and Frame-Relay is fading fast. There are a couple Frame-Relay providers are not doing any new installations.
That said, if you are being forced to use one of these protocols, personally, I would go with Frame-Relay. And the only reason for that is I think it's easier to implement and troubleshoot than ISDN.
One advantage that ISDN has over Frame-Relay is that it's a point-to-point circuit switched protocol. Which means that when the link is up, it's like a T1 (or fractional T1). The downside is that it's typically much more expensive that Frame-Relay.
