The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Broadband ISP is connected, but browser won't open

Asked by dscanning in Internet Service Providers (ISP)

I'm troubleshooting a client's pc and can't find a solution. Two computers are networked with D-Link DWL-520 wireless router. Host internet connection works fine. Second pc has good wireless connection and each computer can see other computers files. ISP is SBC Yahoo DSL and second pc shows that SBC is connected and properties shows that it is both sending and receiving packets. IE will not load any sites. I installed Firefox thinking it might be a corrupted IE browser, but Firefox won't load web pages either. PC is running Windows 2000. Went to DOS and ran ipconfig and it shows following:
DHCP enabled
Autoconfiguration enabled  YES
IP Address 192.168.0.100
Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway 192.168.0.127
DHCP server 192.168.0.127
DNS server 192.168.0.127
The D-Link router address on the browser is 192.168.0.127 and it all looks fine to me. Am I missing something? I checked Services in Admin Tools and all the necessary services and dependent services are STARTED and set to automatic. I performed a Winsock Fix twice. I did a repair on Internet Explorer in Add/Remove programs. I released and renewed successfully with ipconfig command. Network card says Device is working properly. Everything looks fine, but when I try to open IE or Firefox...Page cannot be found bla, blah, blah. I also cleaned out cookies and temporary internet files and history folders in IE. The local area connection has Client for Microsoft Networks, File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks, and Internet Protocol TCP/IP.
Can anyone point me to a solution? At wits end!
