I am trying to hookup 2 100mb switches across a fiber optic cable. I have a 12 strand cable that is certified for 850 and 1300 wavelength. The cable is 493 meters long. Currently I have 4 of the strands working with GBIC modules in Cisco routers. I want a stand alone network using 2 of the available strands. What do I need. I thought I could use 2 multimode media converters but can't seem to get a link across the 12 strand cable. They do work if I use a coupler and just the patch cables. Cost is a factor and this is just a connection for some time clocks to sync with a server. Thanks
