Hi all,
We recently picked up some 5300xl series switches (5308xl) to replace some older HP4000 switches. We have installed 2 already, one as a standard switch on the student network and one with student and staff networks through untagged VLANs (Switch A). When we place another switch (switch B) onto the network that also has student and staff VLANs, switch A's student VLAN fails to work, but the staff VLAN is fine. Switch B's student and Staff VLANs are running fine, as with the rest of the school that doesn't go through switch A.
Switch A is not directly connected to switch B, but both are connected through to the central core via fibre for both student and staff networks (different runs).
If I disable all the ports on the student VLAN on Switch B, the student VLAN on Switch A starts working again. If I enable only the uplink fibre port on Switch B, the student VLAN stops working on switch A. From this I believe that it is not any of the additional student connections on switch B, but either the fibre run or the student VLAN setup. The fibre was working fine with the older model HP4000's, and replacing the HP4000 back in place restores the entire network to a working state.
First time playing with 5300's, and they were picked up second hand so they have some guff left over from the previous owner that I can't seem to clear.
Any hints welcome.
