A friend of mine is moving to the bay area (near San Francisco) and was asking for some help figuring out what ISPs he should use. In his experience (and, for that matter, mine as well) brand-name ISPs have been rather poor at providing good service. Therefore, I am asking for some ISP recommendations.
I have the following conditions:
- This is for personal use, so nothing overly expensive.
- The upload speeds are important as well. Preferably nothing beneath 100 kb/s.
- Do not list any ISPs that are brand-name. This includes Yahoo, Comcast, Earthlink, Netzero, Netscape, and AOL.
- Please explain why the ISP is any good. If you go down a list of google results on "bay area" ISP and make recommendations based on that I will not award you any points. I can use google too. If I wanted that, I wouldn't've asked.
- If there are any negative aspects about the ISP, feel free to include them. I want to know both sides about the ISP.
- If you recommend aol, please excuse me if I refrain from taking any of your posts, past, present, and future, seriously from hereon.
- If the ISP has a referrer program, please omit the referrer code (although an exception might possibly be made if it gives a discount).
Points will be split based on the merit of the recommendations.
Thank you,
Caudax
