Distribution of ADSL over telephone cabling

Asked by SamB in Broadband Internet, Network Routers, Miscellaneous Networking

Hi Experts,

I have recently purchased two apartments in a block that have the LexCom Home communication network installed.

As I understand it, both apartments have their own individual home networks and are not connected - However I would like to share an ADSL line over both. I know wireless may do it - but the apartments are at either ends of a block in an old building so the signal strength is not going to be great.

Although both 'networks' are independent they both have telephone lines running to the basement where the main BT telephone lines come in.

I wondered if there is anyway of using these telephone lines to connect both networks (or at least share an ADSL connection). I could install a modem/router in the basement - but I guesss I need cat5 cabling to get up to the apartment not telephone wire?

Any ideas would be much appreciated - it seems stupid for me to have two landlines installed with seperate ADSL accounts when one apartment is only going to be let for holiday rentals...

Many thanks,
