Browse All TopicsI would like to be able to create a live webcast in the UK on location, without access to a LAN / Wireless network.
The first instance is for a football game.
Current hardware: Dual Core Laptop / Vista and Canon XM2 camera - I also have a LaCie external hard drive which has media server capability. LaCie is connected to web via a wireless broadband connection.
I was thinking of using the XM2 firewire connection to the laptop, either Flash or Windows Media Encoder and Vodafone mobile broadband (av speed in my area 1.8Mbps with service up to 3.6Mbps) to stream to the LaCie acting as a media server with either Flash / Windows Media Server software for views to connect to and view footage.
The other option I believe I have would be to stream to a 3rd party media server.
Will this work, what will the cost implication be from a mobile broadband perspective and what else do I need to know??
ANy idea how to do this smarter and cheaper?
Thanks

You will most certainly need to use a third party service, like shoutcast. Do you intend to broadcast video as well? I'm a little confused. You will most certainly be able to stream audio over 3g using Winamp + shoutcast however. Can you describe in a bit more detail as to what you will be broadcasting.
It's worth keeping in mind that 3G internet access can often be very expensive too!

Important note--check the upload capability of the mobile broadband, because service in many countries offer great download speeds but TERRIBLE upload speeds. Use a website such as www.speedtest.net to test upload speed.
