The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

windows cannot find the local profile and is logging you on with a temporary profile.
Zone: Citrix
Tags: profile, cannot, windows, find, local
Hi all!

I have 2 terminal servers  (W2k3) with Citrix Presentation Server 4.0 installed, 1 Windows Server 2003 Domain Controller and both TS are members of "Mydomain".
All users have Roaming Profiles defined in the "Profile" attribute in the AD Schema as follows: "\\SERVER\Profile$\Username"

After a few days without restarting the TS they get this error when Launching an application: "windows cannot find the local profile and is logging you on with a temporary profile." It seems that they loose rights to the resource because when i log on as the user and paste the profile path in to the explorer's Adress Field i get this error: "Access to the resource '\\SERVER\Profile$\Username' has been disallowed.

If i restart the TS-Server everything works fine again for a while...

Any suggestions anyone?

Probably a memory leak or your running out of kernel memory somewhere.  do you have any funky apps on there?  How many users are on the server concurrently?

Check your event viewer at the time of when the problem occurs.  What types of errors/warnings are you getting?

Hi and Thank's for your replies!

There are no "Funky":-) apps on the server.... Only MSOffice 2003, Adobe Reader 7.0, And MF PS 4.0.
There are at the most 5 concurrent users on the server...

I am using Load Balancing on all applications in the farm, and the users profile is copied from the Domain Controller to the profiles directory on the server that runs the application.... Is it possible that there could be a problem if the user starts an application on "server 1" and then starts another application at almost the same time on "server 2"??

Anyway... here are the errors from the event log on server2

what are the security rights on a particular user's profile folder?  List all who have access and which rights... do this for a user that has had a problem logging in.  Sounds like a corrupt profile but doesn't really make sense how a reboot of the Citrix server fixes the problem

Also have you checked the registry size on the server and available virtual memory?

All Users have the same problem...

I have made hidden share called "\\SERVERNAME\Profiles$\" and created a directory for every user here.

The permissions on the share are set to "Change" and "Read" for all the users... The security rights on the shared folder is:
All users have Modify, Read & Execute, List Folder Contents, Read, Write.

On the subfolder that contains the profile the security permissions are as follows:
The user have Modify, Read & Execute, List Folder Contents, Read, Write.

Available VM seems ok... Hmmm... (I feel stupid now but...) where can i see the registry size in W2k3 SP2? It used to be at the same place where the Paging File was set.... But not in this ver...

I dont think there is a corrupted profile... When the error first starts with one user... every user gets the same error...

How many users are on the system when this happens?  Have you done any perfmon checks to see if any PTE's or Paged pool memory is running out?  go to http://www.brianmadden.com he has a performance paper as well as a free download of his windows 2003 advanced technical design book that has information on how to watch these parameters and what to look for when watching them.

>> where can i see the registry size in W2k3 SP2?

sorry I was thinking W2K.  In W2K3 you no longer have to modify the size but I believe you can use dureg.exe to view the size...  probably won't help you as there is no limitation in the size now for 2K3.
