Auto Reply

I want to set up an auto reply for a generic company email address to let senders know that thie email has been received an will be dealt with in due course.

I am aware that you can set up a rule that pulls in a .oft file which acts as the reply message. But this seems to be a client side rule, which means Outlook needs to be running for it to work which is not practical.

The other option is to use the Out of Office Assistant, which is server side, but looks unprofessional.

Therefore what I am after is server side auto reply using a reply message of my choice, but without the term Out of Office being used.

Exchange server - 5.5 SP4
Clients - Outlook 97, 98 2000

Thanks for your input!

The process that you have just laid out above is the exact process that I have done previously only to receive a message stating that this rule will only work when Outlook is running - hence my problem / question.
Was that using Outlook 2000?
