Exchange 2003 OrgnameCheck

I am migrating Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2003.  5.5 is on Server A, Exchange 2003 will be on Server B.  I am in the process of running the Deploy Tools.  All tests returned positive results except for OrgnameCheck which returned this message (I've changed the company name for privacy):

#*** Organization and Site Names Check began: 05/24/2004 10:38:26 Server name: ntserver4 ***#
Warning: Organization or Site Relative Distinguished Name (RDN) 'Traffic Detailsx, Inc.' in the Exchange 5.5 directory contains a leading space, a trailing space, one or more of ,=+<>#\"*() characters, or too many question marks. Please see Knowledge Base article Q281456 if you want to upgrade any Exchange 5.5 servers to Exchange Server 2003 by upgrading to Exchange 2000 Server first.
Error: Organization or Site display name 'Traffic Detailsx, Inc.' in the Exchange 5.5 directory contains a leading space, a trailing space, or one or more of the following unsupported characters: ~`!@#$%^&*()_+={}[]|\:;"'<,>.?/
#*** Organization and Site Names Check finished: 05/24/2004 10:38:26 ***

I do not understand Microsoft's instructions for fixing this problem.  Please help.  Thank you.

This instance of Exchange 5.5 is live, could changing the display name mess something up or otherwise cause 5.5 to stop working?

I changed the display name and this didn't resolve the issue.  Could you explain exactly where you recommended making the change?
I removed the periods and commas and now only this error message remains:

Warning: Organization or Site Relative Distinguished Name (RDN) 'Systems Plus, Inc.' in the Exchange 5.5 directory contains a leading space, a trailing space, one or more of ,=+<>#\"*() characters, or too many question marks. Please see Knowledge Base article Q281456 if you want to upgrade any Exchange 5.5 servers to Exchange Server 2003 by upgrading to Exchange 2000 Server first.
What do you have that is named "Systems Plus, Inc." ?
Is this your SITE name? If so then go to the properties of the SITE in Exchange 5.5 admin program. Remove the invalid characters in the DISPLAY NAME.

Changing these display names will not affect your Exchange 5.5 server.
I did remove the characters from the display name, but that didn't resolve the problem.  I am still receiving the error message above.  Microsoft seems to mention something about not being able to change a directory name.
You CANNOT change the DIRECTORY NAME without reinstalling.
What is your SITE name?
Site name is SYSPLUS
Is there anything in the Exchange 5.5 Admin tree that is 'Systems Plus, Inc.'?
Check the display names of all the objects.
the only item i see that says that is Directory Name
Well there has to be something that is incorrect. My suggestions on this issue have always corrected the problem.

You may have to MS Support on this issue.
actually it looks like this is exactly what is expected to happen.  The Directory Name can't be changed, only the display name.  However, orgnamecheck is not satisfied with only a display name change.  The real question is, does it matter?
I don't mean to ask a stupid question, but you did change the Display Name for BOTH the site and the organization, right?

Once both are changed, you should be able to continue - if you're NOT, and you're still getting the SAME error (as opposed to a new one) then ExchAdm is right - there's something seriously wrong in the environment.

Check and make sure you've changed it in both locations.
It isn't a dumb question at all.  How do I check both locations?
actually, there is no punctuation in the site name, it is just SYSPLUS so that can't be the problem.
Oy! You know what, I don't have a working 5.5 server anymore - I finished the migration this weekend.  But if I remember correctly, it works the same way - look at the properties of the ORG and change the display name for the Org just as you did with the Site.

May need ExchAdm or Bembi to correct me on this, though.  I've done it a dozen times, but I think now that the migration is over I'm intentionally repressing my memories of 5.5....
yeah, i'm positive it is changed.

i wish i had more points to offer for this question.
Joe - I don't think it's a matter of points.  You've got a pretty intuitive error, and a clear cut solution that isn't working.    That's something that you're probably going to need to call Microsoft PSS for - or try exporting the entire Exchange 5.5 directory and doing a word search for the name listed in the error.  It's either in there hiding somewhere or something is fundamentally wrong with the underlying structure.
has anyone run their migration successfully despite an orgname error?
Just an FYI to this, the original question was never answered.  You only need to change the display name and Exchange will install OK.  I will take whatever you enter for a display name and use it for the Organization and site name on the new system.
I have run into the same problem.  Running the DSScope, I got the same warning and error as above.  I successfully changed the display name, and re-ran the DSScope.  The error is now gone, but the warning remains.  What more can I do, or can I move forward?

I just disregarded that message and continued the installation with no problems.
