URGENT!!! Please Help! OWA displays "Page Cannot be Displayed" when opening certain email messages.

I have just put our new Exchange 2003 Server into production over the weekend.  Everything seems to work correctly except I am getting complaints from a few users about emails that they cannot open.

The reports I am getting come from OWA users.  They claim that they are using OWA's Premium interface, and while in their Inbox they will click on a message, and then a "Page Cannot be Displayed" error is given when they try to open the message.  This is only happening with certain emails in these users' inboxes.  Moste emails open fine, but there are certain ones that will not open correctly.  There are a few IMPORTANT emails that cannot be opened and now I am under fire to get this fixed IMMEDIATELY.

I cannot find a relation to the different messages sent to the different users.  Some of the emails that can't be open are sent from external domains, and some are sent internally.  Some of the messages were sent to multiple users and only the OWA users have the problem opening them.

I will keep monitoring things and posting more information as I get it, but if anyone has experienced something similar or thinks that they know what might be happening, PLEASE let me know.

Thanks in advance.

We had something simliar to this on different occasions.....most were emails that came from our Linux notification server and since it was an internal email that links the to a internal server you cant see anything from inside when your outside.....

the other was a person who had a fancy signature that he created in HTML...(he is a programmer) and something in that signature made all email from him unreadable in OWA....

I will look over some links that I may have and see if I can help u....but check on signature filess too....

I think that I have figured out the problem.  I have URLScan installed on my Firewall and apparently it blocks access to certain emails in OWA if the subject line contains any of the forbidden character strings blocked by URLScan.  In my case the messages not being opened had "..." and "&" in the subject lines.  The URLScan.ini file blocks URLs containing ".." and "&" so I just commented out the "&" rule from the URLScan.ini and I modified the rule that blocks ".." so that it would block "../" instead.

That seems to have fixed my problem.  Thanks for trying anyway.  I was stumped when I posted this question and then finally after 50 different google searches I saw an article explaining that URLScan picks up character sequences from the subject line of emails in OWA.

Hey Guys,
I am a new subscriber, and I have similar problem with the one emotioned by pcbrat,
and I actually I don't have URLscan, but I am still facing the same problem with some mails...
I have ISA firewall.

thank u in advanced
Guess what.....guesswhat75?

hey that was funny...

I still have that problem and I have not found a fix.

I have ISA 2000 scanning and I even scoured my URL.ini and found that that particular file was not the culprit.

I have banged my head looking everywhere.....i even emailed some Exchange Guru friends looking for help.....so I f I find something or your find something post k?

I know that the emails are fine in OWA from inside the LAN, but if I go to OWA from outside and its uses the Front End and ISA then it doesnt work..... :(

Hello Dawne,

anyway I let u know what will happen to me...

If your problem is inside as well than it may be permissions on your OWA IIS directories.
