RPC over HTTP - DNS/Domain Name/SSL Cert question

Hello Experts!

I have an interesting setup that I'm trying to get RPC over HTTP to work in here's the setup:

Internal private domain: name.com (not registered on the big I)  This is a SBS 2003 single server domain/exchange server combo.  This server location has the MX record of name.com pointing to the external IP address of the networks Firewall.  Standard PIX 501 doing packet forwarding to the server for smtp.

A remote provider hosts name.com and the website that is registered on the internet.  DNS for name.com (non MX) points to this server.

I tried to configure RPC over HTTP using the cert issued by the SBS 2003 server.  I want to get a legit cert from freeSSL.com but I'm not sure if it will even work over SSL given this configuration.

Any ideas?  Do I request the cert as <srv name>.name.com?

I'm in a pinch here an need this configured by Monday.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Regards,

Jamie

ASKER

This is for a client of mine and we'll call the domain truckparts.com

The external website hosting service has truckparts.com pointing to their web servers.

We have the internal, non-public sbs 2003 setup, domain called truckparts.com.  The outside IP address of this private network is not registered to a domain name.  The mx record responds to mail.truckparts.com, and points to the outside IP address of this private network.

From what you state above I should get the ssl cert for mail.truckparts.com and apply it to my IIS server and exchange virtual director?

Am I getting this right?

Thanks,

Jamie

Ah yea!  Another problem fixed!  You guys rock!  I was using your site Simon, in my initial attempt at the configuration and it was very helpful!  Once I got the mail.name.com cert and applied it, it was smooth sailing!

Thank to both of you for you help!

Regards,

Jamie
