Exchange serve 2003 not receiving external emails

Our Exchange server stopped receiving external emails this morning, seemingly out of the blue.  I can send emails to external recipients with no problem.  Not having any issues with web access or anything else.

Any ideas on what this could be?

Did your public IP change?
Do you have a static or dynamic public IP address?
Did your MX record change?
Do you have a router setup with port forwarding?
www.checkdns.net

or

www.dnsreport.com

Go to these sites and run a Query against the Domain that you host and see if it successfully connects on port 25 and send a piece of email to your postmaster account. These are good tools to use from outside your envirment to test. best of luck

I restarted the SMTP service, but it did not help.  What is the best way to re-create the SMTP connector?  If I remember correctly, this was automatically created when I originally installed Exchange.

I also checked the dnsreport website and entered my corporate email address.  It found the mail server and reported the correct IP address, but then said that the connection was closed.
The checkdns website gave me the following error:

Domain % has neither MX nor A records for e-mail.
where are you DNS MX records hosted? on your DNS server? or ISP's . I don't know  your whole config. It looks like the "World" can not find your MX records or the server that is hosting them. Did the report show your name servers answering? are you hosting your own or using an ISP for DNS resolution.

Deleting the SMTP connector and re-running the Internet Mail Wizard seems to have done the trick.

Thanks.
How did you delete the SMTP connector
