Incoming mail being rejected "550 Administrative Prohibition"

Hi

We have Exchange server 2003 running on SBS2003.  Until recently, we were using the POP3 connector to collect mail from our ISP and exchange to route it.  About two weeks ago we changed so that mail is now delivered directly to exchange.  Everything appeared to be working fine and mail was being sent and received as normal.

Our problem is that certain incoming mails are being rejected and returned to the sender.  We don't know the extent of this as it was only brought to our attention by regular customers who have called us to let us know (5 people have now reported it).  These people cannot mail to anyone in our domain and get the error

Delivery failed after 5 attempts

Unexpected connection response from the server:
550 Administrative prohibition

We are still receiving lots of mail from other sources and have no problem with sending, even to people whose mail is bouncing (though they cannot reply to it).  I cannot see any connection between the people who are having problems sending to us.  From what i understand this mesage is usually from the senders ISP when the destination address is blocked.  As far as i can see we are not listed on any blacklists.

Any advice would be much appreciated

Thanks in advance

Hi Simon

It appears that when our ISP amended the MX record, they still directed mail through their spam filter before delivering it to our exchange server.  They neglected to let us know this.  The issue is with their server and amending the primary MX record to point at our exchange server has resolved the issue

many thanks
