Messages get stuck in Exchange queue after delivery, and keep redelivering
I've got a recurring problem with messages getting stuck in my Exchange 2003 server's outgoing queue after being successfully delivered, causing them to be redelivered regularly. Near as I can tell the queued messages will resend when I unmount and then remount the message store, or restart the server.
The problem has only been observed with email sent from a small newsletter distribution to outside clients that is sent as a bcc. The newsletters have attached .pdf's in about the 200-400kb range. Not all addresses on the BCC list are affected by this.
I've got only one Exchange server for my organization. I've also got a PIX firewall. I read the following in another topic: "A common cause of that problem is a firewall interfering with the traffic. The PIX is notorious for this." If the PIX is a likely suspect, is there anything that can be done to stop it from interfering or work around it? What is the nature of its interference?
And if not the firewall, is there another common cause?
